Testimonial: 4 days in Serengeti Park, Tanzania at Kantabile Afrika Tented Camps

Updated: Aug 28, 2023

Our colleague Narjess recently visited Aurari Camp and Cherero Camp in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania and she prepared a video diary for us. Enjoy beautiful Africa!

Day 1: Arrival at Aurari Camp

Welcome to Serengeti, Tanzania with Kantabile Afrika!

A short 2 hours flight from Zanzibar to Kogatende Airstrip. The airport is steps away from the Mara River. We were welcomed by a kind and professional guide: Steven. We had tea/coffee with some snacks in the outdoor airport area while Steven was taking care of some formalities (park fee payments).

The drive to Aurari Camp was a safari on its own! Within 3 to 5 minutes after leaving the airport, we saw giraffes, elephants, zebras...etc.

The drive to the tented camp is only 45 minutes from the airstrip but we had a few stops on the way as there were so many animals.

The check-in was fast and everyone was very welcoming! The tents are AMAZING, with great design, generous size, and great quality.

In the afternoon we had another Game Drive and so more animals (some of them in the video).

In the evening, Aurari Camp arranged a sundowner on large rocks with a great sunset, drinks, and snacks. What a beautiful experience!

To finish the day...a tasty 3-course meal.

Day 2: Aurari Camp

Good morning Tanzania!

Early start of the day with breakfast followed by a Game Drive. We got soooo lucky and saw wildebeests crossing!!! Unforgettable show!

We also drove along the Mara River and had a delicious and scenic lunch in the bushes.

It is easy to get overwhelmed by the number and the variety of animals, nature is amazing!

In the afternoon, we got caught in a rain storm... as Roger Miller said: "some people feel the rain, others just get wet". We took this opportunity to feel this tropical rain, enjoy the changing sky and clouds, smell and hear the rain, and watch as the sky was watering the earth. Interestingly, as we arrived at Aurari Camp, they hardly had any rain...talk about the weather forecast :)

In the evening, we sat around a beautiful fire and shared stories.

At the dinner, we had a surprise from the camp's employees who sang and danced for us and we joined in this little performance :)

Day 4: Aurari Camp to Cherero Camp

How nice is it to wake to birds' songs and the sound of zebras' hooves!

I took the time to soak in the morning sun on the deck before proceeding to breakfast.

Afterward, we said goodbye to Aurari Camp and drove to the sister hotel Cherero Camp by Kantabile Afrika! We had a short stop in one of the villages and made some friends on the way:)

We then re-entered Serengeti Park again where we had a lunch break. The Game Drive on the way was fantastic and each encounter with the animals is a special moment.

Cherero Camp resembles its sister Aurari Camp but the landscape is a bit different. It has more of a savanna feel and look (while Aurari is a bit bushier). The day ended with a very pleasant dinner with colleagues and Kantabile Afrika's owners who have created and designed these great tented camps and are fully involved in operations. They've so many interesting stories to share!

Day 4: Cherero Camp

What about a sunrise breakfast in the bushes overlooking a savanna? Ahhh the African sun! What a bliss!

We carried on with a Game Drive with Steven. All animals are impressive and each deserves its own "little documentary" :) I would like to point out one of elephant herds with a total of 24 elephants! The hippos at the "Hippo Beach Club" as we jokingly called it, the lions, the large variety of birds (from small to large like secretary birds and ostriches), zebras running on the roadside, wildebeests herds hesitating to cross the river, crocodiles on the hunt, the funny monkeys and the elegant giraffes. In fact, we have seen around 70 types of animals.

We came back to the tent for a late lunch, followed by some chill time at Cherero Camp. It's great that you can watch animals just by sitting on your deck with binoculars (or without as they often get closer).

Day 4, is another great day... time to pack as tomorrow is the departure day.

We flew back from Seronera Airstrip (around 1.5 hrs drive from Cherero Camp) to Zanzibar, then Dubai.

Thank you Kantabile Afrika! What a hospitality, dedication, and great experience of Serengeti, Tanzania, and Africa!
